WWIII: The Next Superbowl

It is no surprise that the support for military expansion is pretty non-existant. When you take into account the current state of our economy and the questions surrounding our motives in foreign affairs, it is hard to rally any interest in our nation's armies. Perhaps promises of seeing the world, aquiring skills that puts you ahead in the job market, or more importantly playing with guns and explosives, attracts younger individuals that cannot afford to continue on to higher education either financially or metnally. But what about the larger piece of the money providing pie that supports our global military domination?

Our military lacks the support it deserves. The answer? Military trading cards. All you gentlemen might remember the profile cards on the back of your G.I.Joe packaging. Well, why not take the same approach with our military? Millions of Americans shamelessly support athletes that make millions of dollars for throwing around balls. Maybe it is time we turn that attention to the real heroes. Create a committee to select the best of the best from every branch. After selecting these military all-stars the country can track their every militant action. This has several benefits.

The government can use this as a way to support the military financially. The NFL and NBA have proven that once something catches on, the American population will spend money on all sorts of silly things from foam fingers to a crappy painting I just saw on ebay going for 3G's. If the government took advantage of the millions of fanatics that will mindlessly spend money on anything to do with their favorite soldier, maybe other taxpayers won't have to absorb so much of that burden. It will also be much easier for the government to garner support for foreign policy that seems un-important to America. Who is going to contest the chance for their favorite soldier to shoot down a plane, take out an enemy bunker or quell a third world country's civil war?

This could be good for the men and women that serve in the armed forces as well. They will be put on the same pedestal that we place athletes and actors, many that also did not have the intellect to attain higher educations and thus entered a profession that makes millions and receives unwarranted acclaim. So why should our soldiers that are actually risking something and protecting our rights and interests make less than theseother individuals that mildy entertain us? And with all of America paying attention, these all-star soldiers will theoretically do their job even better.

And these are just a few of the benefits. So why not bring the sports industry into the military? Makes more sense than putting more money into the pockets of people that play with their balls all day.
